Portrait images & transparency

Modified on Wed, 06 Feb 2019 at 05:03 PM

Memento Composite supports the use of both jpg and png portrait formats.

  • Image files saved to jpg format cannot display transparency. Portraits saved as jpgs will always include a background - even if the background is just white or unextracted greenscreen.
  • Images in png format may have transparency if they have been extracted. Portraits shot on greenscreen then extracted from their backgrounds may be saved as png files to preserve the transparency around them.

Working with transparency in Memento Composite

The Portrait template displays a preview portrait as an extracted png type image. This allows you to design a repurposable portrait template knowing what will show behind the portrait itself.

If you apply a jpg portrait into the template, the entire area occupied by the portrait will be covered. If you apply a png portrait into the template, the template background and any other elements behind the portrait will show through.

Note that Memento Composite cannot extract images from their backgrounds. Specialized tools and services are available from other software companies to ensure this process is done correctly.
